ABOUT
THE INVENTOR Ronnie L. Mace
MORGANTON,
NC A native of Burke County, Ronnie L. Mace, 56, is Reality
Therapy certified and Chief Financial Officer of Blue Ridge
Community Action, Inc., a Morganton, N.C. non-profit, low-income
assistance organization. Reality Therapy certified means that
Mace has demonstrated knowledge in the concepts and principles
of Choice Theory®, Reality Therapy and Lead-Management as
authored and endorsed by Dr.
William Glasser and the William Glasser Institute respectively.
He joined Blue Ridge Community Action, Inc. in 1981. As CFO,
he oversees financial operations and helps direct all aspects
of agency administrative, programmatic and personnel. He also
develops curriculum and teaches classes for agency staff and
Duke University School of Non-profit Management.
A 1974 graduate from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a degree in accounting,
Mace also holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke
University. Before enrolling in Lenoir Rhyne, Mace earned an
Associate in Applied Science (accounting) degree, with honors,
from Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton.
His community efforts and contributions include serving on the
Burke County Planning and Board of Adjustment (1989-1996), which
he chaired from 1991-1996; as a Burke County Recreation Commissioner
(1978 1999), which he chaired from 1982-1994; as a member
of Burke County Board of Educations Blue Ribbon Committee,
as a Western Piedmont Community College small business mentor
in 1993 and as a member of the Finance Committee for the Burke
County Chamber of Commerce in which he is intensively active.
He currently serves on the Burke County Superintendent of Educations
advisory council; as a member of the Western North Carolina
Youth Council; on the Morganton Rotary; as a member of the Burke
County Small Business and Entrepreneur Committee and as a judge
in East Burke High School senior projects.
Mace was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action
during the Vietnam War, experiences that helped shape the person
he is today; a person who has overcome many of lifes pitfalls
and made a positive contribution helping others do the same.
For 34 years Mace has been married to Anyth Abee Mace. They
have one son, Derek L. Mace, a partner with the Hickory-based
law firm, Gorham, Crone, Mace and Green.
